District Commissioner - Christie
Camp Keyholder - Christie
Blackfoot serves the communities of Acadia, Elbow Park, Fairview, Haysboro, Inglewood, Maple Ridge, Southwood and Willow Park. The district is named after the Niitsitapi, also known as the Blackfoot People.
It has been another amazing year in Blackfoot District. As a district, we went roller skating, swimming, learned archery, and played laser tag. We also came together to make birthday boxes for the food bank and collected socks, gloves, and winter gear for Calgarians in need.
Our Sparks held sleepovers at Heritage Park and the Zoo, went camping, learned to hula at a luau, and visited a nursing home to sing Christmas carols to seniors. Our Brownies visited Fort Calgary, learned to cook at the Superstore, and had a scavenger hunt at Campers Village to learn about camping gear and outdoor wear. The older girls focused on program work, service projects, and the outdoors. They participated in run and walk events, collected books for free libraries, wrapped presents for a non-profit, sent letters to the military, and volunteered at the food bank. In addition to a lot of camping, the girls learned to ski, went canoeing, and improved their backpacking and outdoor cooking skills. Groups travelled to Ireland and England, while others explored Alberta by visiting all the small towns between Drumheller and Stettler.
